Lance Barber’s final moments as George Cooper Sr. in “Young Sheldon” have been captured in a newly released behind-the-scenes video.
In a recent double-episode aired by CBS, the Coopers faced their greatest sorrow. In “A New Home and a Traditional Texas Torture,” season 7, episode 12 of “Young Sheldon,” George tragically passed away from a heart attack at work.
That morning, George had the chance to see his wife and twin children before leaving for work, unaware it would be the last time they saw him.
A new set video posted by a fan on TikTok shows Lance Barber leaving the Cooper family house for the final time, capturing the aftermath of George’s last scene.
In the video, everyone on set was silent as the cameras started to roll. Barber appeared deeply moved as he took his farewell walk as the beloved Cooper patriarch.
Sheldon’s father is a crucial element of the family comedy-drama, largely because the prequel redefined his character in contrast to “The Big Bang Theory.”
In “Young Sheldon,” George is portrayed as a flawed but dedicated father, whereas in “The Big Bang Theory,” Sheldon and Mary often described him as a bad spouse and father.
This contrast led to plot holes, some controversial, like George’s cheating scandal. However, these narrative issues were seen as worthwhile because of how essential George’s character was to the show’s success.
George’s positive portrayal in “Young Sheldon” increased the show’s appeal but also made his death more tragic.
Losing a family member is always hard, but it’s even more heartbreaking when that person, like George, dedicated his life to providing for his family.
George was on the verge of living the life he always wanted, supported by his family and with a better job waiting for him in Houston. However, his sudden death took all of that away.
By the time of his death, George had fully redeemed himself. His passing even shocked Meemaw, highlighting how important he had become in “Young Sheldon.”
Now, fans hope “The Big Bang Theory” will acknowledge that Sheldon and Mary were wrong to disparage George during their time in Pasadena. “Young Sheldon” has shown that George deserved better.
