Adam Lambert always puts on an amazing show, whether he’s rocking out with Queen or singing his own songs. One of his most special performances happened in Melbourne, Australia, when he sang “Whataya Want from Me” on the street. Instead of the usual rock version, he performed it as a soft piano ballad, with just a pianist playing along.
The original studio version of the song is full of energy, but when Lambert sang it with just a piano, it felt like the song was meant to be that way all along. This version really showed off his incredible voice and brought out all the feelings in the lyrics. No wonder people love watching him perform!
A YouTuber named Rainscapes uploaded the video of Lambert’s street performance on August 26, 2012. The performance was part of Channel V’s Guerilla Gig series, where artists surprise fans with pop-up concerts. Lambert first released “Whataya Want from Me” as a single on November 20, 2009. The song became a big hit in Australia, reaching number four on the charts, so it made perfect sense for him to sing it there.
“Whataya Want from Me” is one of Lambert’s most popular songs to sing live. He even performed it during his Live from YouTube Space concert in New York City, but that time he had a full band behind him. Fans were thrilled and left comments like, “I love how he sounds just as good live as in the studio!” and “He’s a vocal beast! And this song never gets old.”
Did you know the song was actually written by some big names? It was co-written by Max Martin, Pink (yes, the famous Pink!), and Karl Schuster. Pink originally wrote and recorded it for her 2008 album Funhouse, but it didn’t make the final cut. Later, Lambert recorded it and released it in 2009 as the second single from his debut album, For Your Entertainment. That album was a huge success, and “Whataya Want from Me” was a big reason why!
Over the years, Lambert has performed the song in many different ways. He sang an acoustic version during his first concert tour in 2010, and he keeps it on his setlist even now. According to Setlist.fm, he has performed it live an incredible 287 times, making it his most-played solo song!
