Anyone who has ever cared for a dog knows the deep bond that forms, whether you plan for it or not. I remember my dad firmly believing our family would never, ever have a dog.
He was so against it that he only agreed to keep the puppy we gave Mom as a Christmas surprise because we had already brought it home.
But guess what? Three months later, the person who loved that dog the most was my dad. He adored the pup and couldn’t imagine life without it.
Having lived with dogs for so long, I understand how quickly they become part of the family. Losing a dog to a speeding car is a heartbreaking thought. For many, burying a dog feels like losing a close family member.
Every year, countless pets are killed by careless drivers who think speed limits don’t apply to them, especially in residential areas. It’s infuriating and devastating.
A family who experienced this loss put up a sign on their front lawn, hoping to make drivers slow down. The sign’s message might seem strong, but I can relate to their pain.
The sign read, “We buried our dog last week because you won’t slow down. Your family may bury you if you hit one of my kids.”
This sign went viral after being posted on Facebook and Reddit, sparking a lot of discussions.
One Facebook user commented, “Love the sign. In communities, people drive far too quickly. Twenty or more is too fast. Kids are riding bikes and playing. Sometimes a ball ends up in the street. Why is this an issue? Because people are f**king stupid, that’s why. Quite simply put.”
A Reddit user added, “I never understand why people speed through neighborhoods… or parking lots. Really, where’s the logic in that?”
Another Facebook user shared their own experience, “Holy shit! My dog escaped, and the woman who ran him over didn’t even slow down. Simply ran over the man. A toddler could experience the same thing.”
However, not everyone agreed with the sign. Some felt that the family shouldn’t have let their pet roam around unsupervised, potentially putting it in danger.
