On Tuesday, the Pope County Sheriff’s Office confirmed this shocking find in a statement.
Samantha Hopper disappeared on September 11, 1998, while on her way to drop off her daughter Courtney at a relative’s house. From there, Samantha planned to travel to Little Rock for a performance. But neither she, her two-year-old daughter, nor the car was ever seen again. For years, her family was left to wonder what happened, fearing the worst but never knowing the truth.
It seemed like the case would never be solved, but Adventures With Purpose, known for solving similar cold cases, decided to take a closer look. They searched deep waters, and finally, they found the car, submerged eight feet below the surface, with human remains inside.

“We are grateful to have played a small part in helping to bring this 23-year-old case to closure and would like to send our sincere condolences to the family of Samantha Hopper and Courtney Holt,” the sheriff’s office said in their statement.

In a touching message posted online, Dezarea revealed that her mother had been nine months pregnant when she disappeared. She was just a child at the time, but the pain of losing her mother and sister never went away.
“My mom was pregnant when she went missing. I’ve always wondered what really happened. Finding them is a relief,” Dezarea shared on a memorial page. She also mentioned that her sister Courtney was only two years old when she disappeared, and now, at long last, the family has some answers.
“After all these years, I’m just glad to know where they are. It’s something we’ve needed for a long time,” Dezarea explained, acknowledging the difficult but necessary process of finding closure.
As the investigation continues, there is a sense of peace finally settling over a family that’s been haunted by this loss for more than two decades. While the sadness of their disappearance will never fade completely, the discovery of their remains has allowed the healing to truly begin.
