The Tiger Girls dance team from Louisiana State University (LSU) has taken the internet by storm! Their incredible performance of Michael Jackson’s famous song “Smooth Criminal” at the “Super Bowl of Dance” has everyone talking.
This talented team made history by winning their fourth title at the Universal Dance Association Hip Hop Competition, and they did it in style!
At the exciting 2024 event held in sunny Orlando, Florida, the Tiger Girls put on a breathtaking tribute to the King of Pop himself, Michael Jackson. They combined classic dance moves with fresh, modern twists that made the audience cheer with delight.
Dressed in shiny white satin suits, sparkling ties, stylish Nike sneakers, and classic fedoras, the Tiger Girls looked like they had stepped straight out of one of Michael Jackson’s iconic music videos!

The song “Smooth Criminal,” released in 1988 as part of Jackson’s legendary “Bad” album, is known for its catchy beat and challenging dance moves. Head coach Kandace Hale shared her excitement about choosing this song for their performance.
“It’s a classic,” she told Southern Living. “The team is obsessed with Michael Jackson!” With such enthusiasm, it’s no wonder they chose to honor him with their dance.
The LSU dancers are famous for their amazing rhythm and energy, and they didn’t disappoint.
Every moment of their routine was filled with electric excitement! One of the standout moments came when the entire team formed a sharp diagonal line and executed Jackson’s famous hip thrusts in perfect unison. The crowd went wild!
Choreographers’ Challenge
The choreographers, Carsen Lowe and Sammy McFadden, shared their thoughts on the challenge of dancing to such a legendary song.
In an Instagram post celebrating their championship-winning performance, they wrote, “To be faced with the challenge to take on an icon such as Michael and bring his essence and star power into the present day is hands down the most difficult path we could have picked.”
They continued, “But with the village that is this team, the choreographers, consultants, and coaches, we know we have no choice but to aim for the highest form of excellence.”
Fans were thrilled with the performance, praising the team for their “untouchable precision” and calling it “un-freaking-believable.” One excited fan commented, “I can’t stop watching this routine.
I am completely addicted!!” Another chimed in, “Whoever choreographed this routine deserves a Grammy,” while a third fan said, “I got chills watching this. Absolutely amazing!”
Celebrating Individuality
Coach Hale also took a moment to reflect on the team’s victory. She said, “Our theme this year was being ‘undeniably us.’ In today’s world, it’s like everybody wants to be everybody else.
We wanted to try to do what we do best.” This message of celebrating individuality really resonated with their performance and connected with the audience.
