When 13-year-old Courtney Hadwin stepped onto the stage of “America’s Got Talent” in 2019, the judges weren’t sure what to expect. Simon Cowell, Howie Mandel, Mel B, and Heidi Klum all looked a little doubtful. Courtney seemed nervous, but Mel B gave her some encouragement. She smiled and said, “Don’t be nervous. You’re here for a reason, so go for it and good luck.”
But the moment Courtney started singing, everything changed. She performed Otis Redding’s song “Too Hot To Handle” with so much energy and passion that she stunned everyone in the room. One second she was a shy teenager, and the next she was a powerful performer, owning the stage like a pro.
The most exciting moment came when Howie Mandel, completely blown away by her talent, pressed the golden buzzer. Golden confetti rained down, and Courtney was sent straight to the quarter-finals! Howie couldn’t believe his ears and told her, “Oh my gosh, you’re not from this era; you’re from a whole different era.” Simon Cowell was amazed too, saying, “You were this shy little thing when you came out, and then you sing and you’re like a lion.”
Courtney didn’t win the top prize, but she made it to the top ten and kept amazing everyone with every performance. One of her most unforgettable moments was in the finals when she sang Tina Turner’s hit “Nutbush City Limits.” The energy she brought to the stage was incredible. After she finished, Howie cheered, “You are on fire, you’re amazing, you’re a superstar!”
Even though she didn’t take home the trophy, Courtney’s time on “America’s Got Talent” was just the beginning. Since then, she has released five original songs and is working on her first album. She’s even getting ready for an exciting American tour!
