On April 23, 2025, Duchess Meghan was invited to an event in New York City. Prince Harry accompanied her — yet it is not the surprise of their appearance that is now making headlines.

The public already knew that Duchess Meghan, 43, would be giving a talk at the “Time100” event in New York on April 23. What only became clear on-site: Prince Harry, 40, joined his wife on the trip to the Big Apple to support her. For the Sussexes, this occasion marked their first joint public appearance after several weeks of attending events separately. It could have been a demonstration of their marriage, their love, and their strength as a couple — and yet it is other aspects surrounding the Sussexes that are now grabbing attention.

Duchess Meghan and Harry: Appearance Overshadowed by “Abnormal” Security Measures

The American portal “Page Six” published photos showing the Sussexes’ motorcade in New York. The couple was chauffeured through Manhattan in a total of four vehicles: two SUVs and two unmarked police cars. “Page Six” criticized the Sussex convoy as “abnormal,” pointing out that even more famous celebrities like Taylor Swift, 35, Beyoncé, 43, or Rihanna, 37, rarely travel with more than two vehicles.

“Taylor Swift usually has two cars — one that she rides in and one security vehicle with her team,” an insider told “Page Six,” emphasizing that Meghan and Harry’s motorcade was “absolutely unusual.” The use of unmarked police cars was particularly criticized. “Is the city paying for that?” the insider asked. It remains unclear whether the New York Police Department (NYPD) protection was funded by taxpayers.

Especially Meghan Shows “Lack of Strength and Power”

Through her body language, it was mainly Duchess Meghan who conveyed how confident she felt, according to expert Judi James speaking to the “Mirror.” James described the appearance as a “display of power” — but one that, in reality, was not. She explained: “Out on the street upon their arrival, Meghan’s body language suggested feigned modesty and even a hint of shyness. Both arms were raised and bent at a 45-degree angle, yet her hands hung limply from bent wrists, demonstrating a lack of strength and power.”

On April 23, Meghan participated in the “Time100” summit and spoke with “Time” CEO Jessica Sibley about her current projects and her happiness with her family: “One ‘confession’ I can share with you today is that I am happier than I have ever been,” the Duchess said on stage, according to “People.” “Having a husband and partner who is so supportive, and children who are healthy and happy — I could never have imagined feeling so joyful and grateful at this point in my life, and yet I truly do.”
