Even when feeling under the weather, Taylor Swift proves the show must go on. This weekend, during her record-breaking world tour, she showed just how professional she is by powering through a cold.
A Night to Remember
In chilly Edinburgh, Taylor Swift faced the challenge of a runny nose while dazzling her fans. The Pennsylvania-born pop star was spotted wiping her nose with her hands and then on her glittery dress several times during her performance.
This all happened during the first leg of her UK tour. Over 219,000 fans attended her three shows at Murrayfield Stadium last weekend.
Despite summer being just around the corner, the cold air at the stadium didn’t help her situation. Many blamed the low temperature for her sniffles, especially after she was seen wiping her nose during her hit song “Don’t Blame Me.”
With temperatures dropping below 46.4 degrees Fahrenheit, a video captured her blowing her nose and wiping it on her skirt.
Mixed Reactions from the Audience
While Taylor bravely battled the cold, some fans accused her of flicking mucus towards the audience. Social media buzzed with reactions, ranging from sympathy to disgust. “Taylor Swift blew her nose and wiped it on her skirt on stage,” one person commented. Fans also noted that she licked her nose at one point.
“Someone please give Taylor Swift some tissues,” exclaimed another horrified user. “It’s crazy how many times I’ve seen her use her hands to clean her nose in the last few days. I know she’s performing, but there has to be a way to make sure she always has tissues.”
Support from the Swifties
Not everyone was critical. “I’m not even a Swiftie, but I seriously don’t get why anyone would be mad or disgusted by someone wiping their nose,” said one supporter. “Really, folks?
What was she supposed to do? She probably didn’t have a tissue nearby, but at least she wasn’t leaving snot all over her face.”
The UK Tour Continues
Taylor Swift’s UK tour kicked off with three unforgettable nights in Edinburgh. Next, she’ll perform eight nights at Wembley, with additional shows in Cardiff and Liverpool. In London alone, 720,000 fans are expected.
After Europe, she’ll return to the US for nine more shows in Miami, New Orleans, and Indianapolis. She’s already completed 53 dates in the US and has committed to 50 shows in 18 European cities.
Fan Dedication and Economic Impact
Taylor’s fans are incredibly dedicated, with some lining up 48 hours before her shows. A staggering 220,000 people are eager to catch a glimpse of her and buy merchandise. However, the influx of fans has caused hotel prices in Edinburgh to skyrocket, with many struggling to find accommodations.
Her Eras tour is expected to boost the UK economy by around £1 billion. Fans are spending on tickets, lodging, transportation, pre-concert dinners, and official merchandise.
Many even buy new outfits for the event. On average, a Swiftie attending an Eras concert in the UK will spend £848.
Ticket Troubles: High Demand Worldwide
Since her Scottish shows, UK fans have voiced frustration over ticket availability. The high demand was partly due to American fans buying tickets for UK shows.
Some American fans argued they faced similar issues back home and found European dates more affordable due to the strong dollar.
With 4.35 million tickets sold globally, securing a spot at a Taylor Swift concert has been a major challenge for her fans.
