Who doesn’t love eggs for breakfast, right? Whether you like them scrambled, poached, or sunny side up, eggs are the best way to kickstart your day. They give us the energy we need and pair perfectly with cheese, tomatoes, and bacon.
But have you ever come across an egg with two yolks? It’s rare, but it happens. Now, imagine something even more impressive than a double-yolk egg. One Texas farmer has discovered something truly extraordinary—an egg within an egg! If you’re curious, keep reading to find out more about this amazing story.
Although there are videos of people cracking open double-shelled eggs, many think they’re fake because of how rare they are.
According to Poultry Help, a double-shelled egg occurs when “an egg that is nearly ready to be laid reverses direction and gets a new layer of albumen covered by a second shell.” Countryside Network adds that this process is caused by a “counter-peristalsis contraction.”
In July 2015, a video was posted on YouTube showing a man who calls himself “just an old Texas farmer appreciating nature.” He discovered a huge egg laid by an average-sized chicken. As of now, the video has over 3 million views!
In the video, the farmer starts tapping the egg, causing the shell to crack slightly. As he removes a small piece of the shell, he reveals the yolk inside.
Laughing, he says, “Oh, I see another surprise! It’s a double egger!”
He carefully pours out the yolk, revealing a smaller egg nestled inside the larger one. “No double yolks, that’s for wimps,” he jokes. “We got two eggs!”
The smaller egg inside looks just like the regular eggs you buy at the grocery store. The farmer cracks it open to reveal a perfectly normal egg.
