Weddings are meant to be happy, but as I watched Shanize walking toward the altar, something felt very wrong. A strange feeling crept over me, and I couldn’t shake it. What I discovered when I finally acted left me absolutely speechless.

At first, I told myself it was just pre-wedding nerves. Weddings are emotional, after all. But as Shanize took another step, I noticed something unusual. Her walk didn’t seem right—it was slow and awkward, almost like she was struggling to move. I leaned over to Dave’s sister, Heather, and whispered, “Do you see that? Her walk… it’s strange.”

Heather gave a quick glance down the aisle and shrugged. “You’re overthinking it, Janice,” she said, smiling like I was being silly. “She’s just nervous. It’s a big day.”

Even though she tried to calm me down, my uneasy feeling only grew. Shanize kept moving closer, but her steps looked even more labored. Her dress swayed in a way that didn’t seem normal, like something was off underneath it. I couldn’t ignore it anymore.

Heather warned me not to cause a scene, but I had to know what was going on. My heart pounded as Shanize finally reached the altar. I was so anxious, I couldn’t help myself. I leaned down, grabbed the edge of her gown, and lifted it just a little.

What I saw underneath froze me to the spot. Instead of delicate bridal shoes, I saw large, shiny men’s shoes! My brain scrambled to make sense of it. My eyes shot up, and I noticed something else: hidden beneath the flowing dress were suit pants. That’s when I realized the shocking truth—this wasn’t Shanize!

I looked up, my heart pounding, and saw that the person standing in front of me was a man wearing a wig and a veil. Panic rushed through me as I met Dave’s eyes. He looked just as confused as I was. His smile faded, and his voice wavered. “Janice? What’s going on?”

The whole room was silent, everyone stunned. The man in the wedding dress didn’t even flinch. Calmly, he took off the veil and pulled off the wig, revealing short, dark hair. The crowd erupted into gasps, whispers filling the air.

With a smug grin, the man spoke, “Surprise! None of you even noticed, did you?”

Dave’s face drained of color as he looked around in disbelief. His voice trembled as he asked, “Where’s Shanize?”

The man, who I suddenly recognized as Dave’s best man, smiled casually and replied, “She’s gone. She left a few days ago. But don’t worry, she asked me to do this. She wanted you to have this moment.”

Murmurs spread throughout the church as everyone tried to figure out what was happening. I stood there, stunned, my mind racing to make sense of it. Why would the best man do something like this? Dave’s face was pale, his body shaking as he asked, “What are you talking about? What did you do to her?”

The best man lifted his hand, trying to calm everyone, though his next words were anything but comforting. “Relax, she’s fine. She just wanted you to know what it feels like to be blindsided.”

Dave’s face twisted with confusion. “What do you mean?”

The best man’s grin widened even more. “She found out, Dave. About you and Vanessa.”

The room fell into complete silence as those words sunk in. Dave stood frozen, his expression turning to pure horror. “No… that’s not true,” he whispered, but his voice was weak.

“Oh, it is,” the best man continued, his voice dripping with cruelty. “She found out about your affair with Vanessa, one of her bridesmaids. Shanize discovered everything a few days ago. She could’ve called off the wedding, but where’s the fun in that? She wanted everyone to see the real you.”

Gasps echoed throughout the room. I glanced over at Vanessa, who was sitting a few rows back. She looked terrified, her face pale as a ghost, her eyes locked on the floor. Dave’s entire face drained of color, and he began shaking his head frantically. “No, no, this can’t be happening,” he muttered in desperation.

But the best man wasn’t done. He raised his voice, filled with bitter satisfaction. “It’s happening, Dave. You betrayed her, and now you’re paying for it.”

Suddenly, the room was filled with chaos. People started talking over each other, trying to make sense of what they had just witnessed. Dave, desperate and broken, reached out to me. “Janice, please, you have to believe me. This isn’t what it looks like!”

I could only stare at him, my heart heavy. “Dave… what have you done?”

And with that, the best man turned and walked away, leaving Dave standing there, completely alone, his world shattered.
