Hi, I’m Nikki, and I want to share a story about how karma sometimes needs a little push. It all started when I saw my ex-fiancé, Mark, at a fancy restaurant with another woman.
Five years ago, Mark called off our engagement, saying I “wasn’t good enough” after he got promoted. He wanted someone more sophisticated. It hurt, but I moved on.
Fast forward to last Saturday. Mark is 35, single, and doing well. I spotted him at this new restaurant and decided it was the perfect time for some payback. I asked the waiter to bring a bottle of champagne to his table with a note: “To Mark, who always settles for second best.” His face turned red, and his date looked confused.
Knowing Mark is allergic to appetizers, I sent one over with a message, “Just a reminder of what you can’t have.” Mark struggled to explain this to his increasingly annoyed date.
For my final act, I called my friend Sarah. She walked up to Mark’s table and loudly asked, “How’s your fiancée doing?
Did she finally agree to an open relationship?” Clara, Mark’s date, was horrified and stormed out.
I couldn’t resist walking over to Mark’s table and giving him a sweet smile. “Hello, Mark. I guess I wasn’t so ‘not good enough’ after all.” Then I walked out of the restaurant, feeling triumphant.
A few days later, I heard that Clara and Mark had broken up. Sometimes, getting even feels incredibly satisfying, especially when it involves a bit of public humiliation.

I guess I would have just scrolled over to his table and said hello. I’m not one for revenge. I would have known my worth was much more than his. He didn’t deserve me if he was so shallow.
