Over the years, Jelly Roll—whose real name is Jason Bradley DeFord—and his wife Bunnie Xo (Alisa DeFord) have been open with their fans about their battles with addiction. Their journey to sobriety has been a central part of their story, with Jelly Roll often crediting his children, Bailee, 15, and Noah, 7, from previous relationships, as well as Bunnie, for helping him turn his life around.
“Family is everything,” Jelly Roll told People magazine. He recalled how being a father changed his life, saying, “The single most impactful event of my entire life was having my daughter. It changed everything.”
Jelly Roll, who was serving time for crack cocaine when Bailee was born, also shared how important Bunnie has been in his life. “A lot is often said or made about my story, but the truth is, I’ve never been moved more by a story than the story of my wife,” he wrote in a heartfelt Facebook post.
He spoke about Bunnie’s past, where she endured abuse in a previous relationship and how she inspired him with her strength and determination. “She saved me in one of the darkest times of my life. She has been nothing but supportive.”
But now, Bunnie is facing a new challenge. In a recent Snapchat update, she revealed that a recent MRA (Magnetic Resonance Angiography) showed a possible internal carotid artery aneurysm. “It can’t be ruled out,” the 44-year-old model shared. “It’s not confirmed, it’s not denied.”
Bunnie explained that she would need to meet with a vascular neurosurgeon and undergo more tests to get a definitive diagnosis. “I’m really fing scared and stressed out about it, but I know God’s got me, dude,” she said. She added that she had spent the last hour crying and praying, saying, “He didn’t bring me this far to just fing bring me this far. I got a lot of s*** I got to do still.”
On July 23, Bunnie shared on Facebook that she was up early for an MRI/MRA, pushing through her claustrophobia to face her fears. Over the next few days, Bunnie continued to post updates on social media, often expressing her love for Jelly Roll, who has been her biggest support.
In one post, she captioned a photo of the two of them kissing with, “The safest of spaces.”
Finally, Bunnie shared the news everyone had been waiting for: “[The doctor] told me he does not think that it is an aneurysm. He told me that I am cleared, that he thinks it’s an artifact, and he also thinks that, in six months whenever I come back to re-test and do another CT scan, that he will be able to prove that it is an artifact.”
For those unfamiliar, the Radiological Society of North America explains that an artifact can be caused by various factors, including software, hardware, or even the patient’s movement during the scan.
Fans flooded the comments on Bunnie’s update, sharing their relief and personal experiences. “This is good news! Thank you for sharing so much with us. Your transparency is healing to many,” one fan wrote.
Another added, “I had an aneurysm scare last fall as well, the relief when the doctors cleared me was indescribable!” Others shared stories of loved ones lost to aneurysms, urging the importance of regular check-ups.
A few days later, Bunnie reflected on the whole experience in another post. “I tell you what, this health scare put so much in perspective for me. It honestly made me want to change a lot of things in my life.”
She also shared how much her husband’s love and support mean to her, saying, “Even my husband texting me last night saying, ‘You’re my best friend.’
Brought me to tears. You don’t realize how much you appreciate life & the ppl in it until you feel like you could lose it & them at any moment.”
