Longing for the Old “Friends” Days

This September marks the 30th anniversary of the TV show “Friends.” Jennifer Aniston wishes she had a time machine to go back to those days.

In the 90s and early 2000s, “Friends” was one of the most successful TV shows globally. Even two decades after the series ended in 2004, fans still yearn for the times when the original group of friends, played by future Hollywood stars Jennifer Aniston (55), Courteney Cox (59), Lisa Kudrow (60), Matt LeBlanc (56), Matthew Perry (1969-2023), and David Schwimmer (57), navigated from one big city adventure to another.

In a “Variety” interview with actress and producer Quinta Brunson (34), Jennifer Aniston, who played Rachel Green on the show, shared that she too longs for those past times.

When Brunson mentioned that the series would turn 30 next September, 55-year-old Aniston responded, “And I will also be 30!” The thought that the show’s debut was already 30 years ago seemed incredibly strange to her.

“A Family Forever”

“The fact that it had this long, wonderful life and still means so much to people is one of the greatest gifts we could have ever imagined,” Aniston said. Her five remaining co-stars—Matthew Perry passed away in October 2023—are still in regular contact. The former “Friends” cast remains “a family forever.”

“It Was Truly an Innocent Time”

Aside from the exciting era with the “Friends” cast, Aniston describes the 90s as a fantastic and carefree time. “We had the luxury of not having social media or the internet, so we were so isolated and protected,” Aniston explained. “You weren’t confronted with people’s comments tearing you apart or whatever. It was truly an innocent time when we could navigate the world much more easily.”

When Quinta Brunson also grew nostalgic and wished she could return to those old times, Jennifer Aniston enthusiastically added, “But we can! Time machine! We’re going to build one.”
