We all age, and eventually, we all face the end of our lives. It’s a part of the human experience.
I’m not particularly scared of dying, I see it as something beautiful and natural. But what truly terrifies me is the idea of growing old and becoming unable to care for myself.
The thought of needing help for every little thing—being unable to go to the bathroom by yourself or forgetting the names of your own children—that’s not living. That’s a nightmare.
Maria was spending her last days in a care facility, fully aware that her time was coming soon.
She had spent her life as a teacher of music—both piano and voice—and she missed being surrounded by it. Music had been her world.
But Maria had a bit of good fortune. One of her former students worked at her care home in Austinburg, Ohio.
Joshua Woodard had been taught by Maria when he was just nine years old, so they had a deep bond.
Maria’s greatest wish was to hear the song “How Great Thou Art” one last time before she passed away.
Joshua, eager to fulfill that wish, was more than happy to make it happen.
With the lyrics pulled up on his phone, he began to sing the song, his voice filled with love and emotion as he serenaded Maria.
What made this even more touching was the fact that Joshua had been one of Maria’s students when he was just a child. It was a full-circle moment.
“Hospice workers are angels, but this hospice aide is something special,” said Marti Adkins Redmond, another worker at the facility.
“Mary taught voice and piano, and this aide, Joshua Woodard, was one of her students when he was a kid. It’s an amazing thing to see!”
Maria’s sister-in-law was there, capturing the emotional moment on video.
Sadly, Maria has passed away, which makes this video even more bittersweet, but it is a moment that will stay in people’s hearts forever.
The video is a powerful reminder of the love and care given by staff at hospice facilities, who work tirelessly to ensure that our elderly loved ones are treated with kindness and respect.
Take a moment to watch this touching clip, and share it with your friends on Facebook to honor the wonderful people who dedicate their lives to caring for the elderly.

How beautiful…what a kind gesture. He is a saint.
One of the most beautiful and touching moments I have ever saw.
