Melania Trump’s “awkward” moment during inaugural dance

Donald and Melania Trump are not usually seen showing their affection in public. But after Donald’s victory in the election last November, some body language experts noticed that Melania seemed less than thrilled about the win. For years, there had been rumors about the strength of their relationship, but things seemed different on Inauguration Day.

On that special Monday, Melania appeared much more engaged, smiling, holding Donald’s hand, and even exchanging a kiss on the cheek. A body language expert observed this change, noting that their interactions showed a shift in their relationship. However, not every moment of the day was entirely positive.

One of the most closely watched moments was their dance at the inaugural ball. A body language expert noted that Melania’s body language seemed a little awkward, and there was a reason for it. The couple’s interactions on that day became a topic of fascination, and experts analyzed every gesture and glance.

A Historic Day

Donald Trump’s inauguration as the 47th President of the United States was a grand event. Though cold weather forced the swearing-in ceremony to take place inside the U.S. Capitol Rotunda instead of outdoors, the occasion was still magnificent, with Donald taking the oath of office surrounded by his family.

The idea of Melania taking on the role of First Lady for a second term had been discussed for years. When the Trumps first left the White House, reports suggested that Melania was not eager to return.

But as Donald prepared for another presidential campaign, Melania publicly expressed her willingness to return to the White House. However, when Donald’s victory was announced, her reaction didn’t seem very enthusiastic.

Some people thought their hug and kiss at the victory celebration looked sweet, but body language expert Darren Stanton wasn’t convinced. He noticed Melania’s hesitation when Donald gestured for her to join him on stage to celebrate. According to Stanton, the moment felt awkward, with no real closeness between them.

“It felt disjointed and awkward,” Stanton said. “There was no real emotion from her. Her smile seemed forced, almost like it was for the cameras.” He added, “You would expect her to show more excitement after such a huge win, but instead, her behavior seemed restrained, almost as if she was holding back.”

Despite the coldness at times, Melania had supported Donald during his final campaign rallies. By January 20, when Donald was officially inaugurated, their interactions seemed warmer and more connected than before.

Inauguration Day

Body language expert Judi James shared her thoughts with the Mirror, observing that throughout Inauguration Day, Donald was seen holding Melania’s hand often. He kissed her cheek and looked at her with admiration during their dance, acting like a chivalrous gentleman.

Melania’s outfit was also a topic of discussion. James pointed out that her wide-brimmed hat and sharply tailored coat made a strong statement. They suggested she was ready to take on the role of First Lady as Donald’s equal partner. James also noticed Melania’s smile, which was confident and composed, adding to her regal presence.

Even during awkward moments, such as when they said goodbye to the Bidens after Donald’s speech, Melania’s body language told a story. When Joe Biden placed his arm around her, she turned toward her husband, holding onto her hat as a small distraction. Later, when Donald shook hands with Biden, Melania placed her arm around his waist, showing support.

James continued to observe Melania’s growing confidence throughout the day. “By the time they left the service, their clasped hands were more than just a sign of unity. Donald even lifted their hands, almost as if to show off his pride in her,” James said. “Melania’s smile was radiant, and her calm, composed demeanor seemed to show that she was relaxed and in control.”

Another expert, Inbaal Honigman, noticed how different Melania’s behavior was compared to 2017. This time, she seemed calm and neutral, making sure not to draw attention to herself. She chose subtle expressions and gestures to keep the focus on her husband.

“Her demeanor was calm and neutral,” Honigman said. “She didn’t want to take any attention away from Donald. Her wide-brimmed hat helped her maintain a shield from criticism, allowing her to keep a neutral expression without distraction.”

A Special Anniversary

On January 22, just two days after the inauguration, Donald and Melania celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary. Their lavish wedding took place at Bethesda-by-the-Sea in 2005, and now, moving back into the White House together seemed like a perfect way to mark the milestone.

At the inauguration ball, people kept analyzing the couple’s interactions. Abbie Maroño, a behavioral scientist, observed moments of discomfort during their dance.

When Donald tried to kiss Melania, there was a slight awkwardness, and they ended up sharing a light “air kiss.” Maroño suggested that this might have been Melania’s way of protecting herself from the public eye, not wanting to show too much affection in front of so many cameras.

At the Commander-in-Chief Ball, their dance started out tense, but as the evening went on and more people joined them, including Vice President JD Vance and his wife Usha, the atmosphere became more relaxed. Melania began to smile and looked like she was starting to enjoy herself.

In another moment, lip-reading expert Jeremy Freeman shared a report of what Melania supposedly whispered to Donald during the Liberty Ball. According to Freeman, the exchange between them was a mix of reassurance and playful conversation. Melania offered her support to Donald, and Donald responded with his usual determination to improve and do his best.
