My Brother Kept Insulting My Husband for Being ‘Just an Electrician’ – But Karma Had the Last Laugh

My brother and I are as different as night and day—except for our stubbornness! We grew up in a family where everyone was a professional. We both found success, but in totally different ways. I married Mark, an electrician who runs a very successful business. However, my brother can’t seem to see beyond the title of “electrician.”

After years of his insulting remarks, I had finally had enough. But before I could teach him a lesson, karma stepped in and took charge.

I grew up in a nice home, where my parents worked really hard to give us everything we needed. My mom is a brain surgeon, and my dad owns his own business. My older brother, Jack, became a lawyer, but he cares more about showing off his money than doing the hard work it takes to build his own practice.

He loves to brag about his fancy cars, designer clothes, and luxurious lifestyle. Jack is even engaged to his third fiancée, treating her like another trophy.

On the flip side, I’ve always been more down-to-earth. My husband, Mark, and I live comfortably but choose to keep things simple. What Jack doesn’t know is that Mark isn’t just an electrician; he went to business school and built a company that makes four times what I earn!

Despite this success, Mark remains humble. He puts much of his earnings back into his business and generously supports charities. My parents truly appreciate this, especially when we surprised them with an all-expenses-paid cruise for their 30th wedding anniversary.

But Jack just couldn’t let it go. One Mother’s Day, after I treated our mom to a series of relaxing spa sessions, Jack proudly handed her an expensive, flashy watch. With a smug look on his face, he boasted, “This watch is a limited edition. The salesperson knew I was a lawyer and gave it to me right away!” Then he sneered, looking at Mark, “An electrician could never afford something like this.”

Mark, being the gracious person he is, just smiled and brushed it off. But I could see the hurt in his eyes. Jack kept mocking Mark’s profession as if it was something silly. Little did he know that Mark could easily buy Jack’s entire law firm and still have cash left over! But we stayed silent, knowing that Jack’s moment would come.

And it did, much sooner than I expected.

A few weeks later, during a family barbecue, Jack made his usual grand entrance—late, of course, pulling up in his shiny Porsche with his fiancée by his side. He strutted around, bragging about his latest court win and the fancy honeymoon he was planning for his next wedding. Just as I was getting ready to compare my real designer purse to the fake one he bought for his fiancée, we heard a loud commotion outside.

We rushed out to see Jack’s beloved Porsche being hooked up to a tow truck! Panic spread across his face as he shouted at the driver, “This must be a mistake!” The driver shook his head. “Sorry, it’s being repossessed. You’re months behind on payments.”

Jack turned white as a ghost, and while he stood there frozen in shock, his fiancée quietly slipped inside the house, clearly embarrassed. Alone and vulnerable, Jack finally admitted the truth—he had lost his job! A big case he messed up had led to his firm being sued, and now no one wanted to hire him. His debts had piled up, and he could no longer keep up with his extravagant lifestyle.

In that moment, I felt a strange mix of pity and satisfaction. Life had finally taught Jack the humility I had always hoped he would learn. Without saying a word, I walked over to him and said softly, “Maybe this is a sign to rethink things.” For the first time, Jack’s arrogance had vanished, replaced by a vulnerability I had never seen before. “I guess I had this coming,” he admitted, his voice low.

Before I could respond, Mark stepped forward and placed a hand on Jack’s shoulder. “If you need work, I could use an extra set of hands in my company. It’s not glamorous, but it’s honest work and pays well.”

Jack looked shocked. “You’d actually hire me after everything I said?”

Mark smiled warmly and replied, “Everyone deserves a second chance.”

As the sun set that day, Jack accepted Mark’s offer. He worked hard, starting from the bottom and learning the trade. Over time, his arrogance faded away, replaced by a new respect for honest labor and deep gratitude for the chance he had been given.

Karma had done its job, but in the end, our family was still there for Jack. The road ahead wouldn’t be easy, but we were with him every step of the way. And maybe, just maybe, he became a better man because of it.
