Growing up with parents who don’t support your dreams can be tough. Jenny’s story proves just how tough it can get. She had big dreams, but her father never helped her pay for college. He bragged to everyone that he did, but it was all lies.
From the start, he pushed her hard for good grades. “Nothing below a B, Jenny,” he’d say, putting so much pressure on her.
In college, Jenny took on multiple jobs to pay for tuition herself. She didn’t want to live under her father’s thumb anymore.
Meanwhile, Jenny’s cousin had it easier. Her parents supported her financially and gave her space to grow.
During a family gathering, Jenny’s uncle asked her father how much he spent on her education. Without blinking, he said, “It’s been a big investment, a small fortune, really. But nothing’s too good for my daughter!”
Jenny couldn’t stand it. She left the room, unable to hear his lies and fake smile anymore.
Later, at her graduation, Jenny had a plan. She invited her family, including her father. When her name was called, she took the stage and began her speech.
“I want to thank… ME,” she said boldly. “For working so hard to pay my own tuition, without any help from anyone.”
On the screen behind her, images showed Jenny working long hours at minimum-wage jobs, washing dishes late into the night.
“Every late night, every double shift, every exam I aced… I did that. Without any help from him,” she declared, pointing directly at her father.
He left in a hurry.
After the ceremony, Jenny’s family surrounded her. Some were surprised, others supportive. “We had no idea, dear. You should have told us,” her aunt said softly.
But Jenny wasn’t looking for sympathy. She just wanted recognition for her hard work.
“You really showed him, didn’t you?” her uncle grinned.
“Yes, I guess I did,” Jenny replied. “But more importantly, I showed myself.”
Her graduation wasn’t just about getting a degree. It was her way of declaring independence and starting a new chapter in her life.
