My Fierce Rival Crashed My Wedding and Took the Microphone, I Tensed Up – Story of the Day

I had never felt so happy in my life as I did on my wedding day. Everything was perfect: the guests, the music, the laughter, and of course, Tom, my new husband. But just as I was savoring the moment, the unthinkable happened—my fierce rival, Mary, showed up, completely uninvited. The whole room went quiet as she marched to the front and took the microphone.

“Hi, everyone,” she said with a smirk, “Nobody invited me, but I’m here to talk about something very important.” My stomach dropped. I could feel the tension building inside me.

The wedding, which had been going so smoothly until that point, suddenly seemed like it was spiraling out of control. My heart raced as I watched Mary step into the festival hall. Tom’s former lover—self-proclaimed, of course—had appeared out of nowhere. She stood there, smugly, and I could feel the anxiety growing inside me.

“Why did she come here? I told you not to invite her!” I snapped at Tom, my voice shaking with anger.

Tom, looking uncomfortable, gave me a half-hearted smile. “Calm down, darling. It’s just a small issue. This can’t ruin our wedding,” he said, clearly trying to calm me down.

“But Tom, I asked you not to invite her!” I retorted, my frustration growing.

“Jessica, I swear, I didn’t invite her! I have no idea why she’s here!” Tom explained, but I didn’t believe him.

Before I could say more, the guests, eager to get the celebration back on track, interrupted us with loud chants. “KISS! KISS! KISS! WE WANT YOU TO KISS EACH OTHER! NOW!”

Tom and I locked eyes and held hands, then kissed passionately, trying to silence the growing tension in the room. Just as we pulled away, the toastmaster interrupted us. “Alright, it’s time for the bride to throw the bouquet. Let’s see who’ll be the next to get married!” he said cheerfully.

The girls quickly gathered around the festive table, forming a circle. I stood in the center, feeling a mixture of excitement and nerves. As I positioned myself to throw the bouquet, I overheard some of the girls whispering to each other about how beautiful I looked in my snow-white dress—the one I had dreamed about for so long. My cheeks flushed with pride. It felt surreal that it was actually happening. I had married Tom, a wealthy and charming businessman.

The circle of girls shifted, getting ready to fight for the bouquet. I turned my back to them, raised the bouquet, and tossed it into the air.

But when I turned around, I couldn’t believe my eyes. There, standing triumphantly with the bouquet in her hands, was none other than Mary. She looked directly at me and smiled, but I refused to meet her gaze. Instead, I turned away and walked off, my heart pounding in my chest.

The toastmaster continued, “The girl who caught the bouquet, please come up to the microphone!”

Mary, ever confident, lifted her purple gown and strode toward the stage. As she grabbed the microphone, I felt my heart stop. There was no way this was going to end well. I should have thrown her out earlier. She was going to ruin everything.

The toastmaster, with a smile, looked at her and asked, “What’s your name, young lady? Please introduce yourself!”

The moment Mary opened her mouth, my mind flashed back to my past. All the memories came flooding back in an instant.

I was just a little girl, running along the riverbanks when I met my first love. His name was Michael, and he was five years older than me. I remember him limping that day—maybe he had hurt his leg somehow.

I stopped beside the river and watched him, curious about the stranger. Just then, he slipped and fell into the river. I screamed for help, and fortunately, a fisherman heard me and pulled him out just in time.

I rushed to Michael’s side. “Are you okay?” I asked anxiously.

He looked up at me with a smile and took my hand. “Thank you for saving me. When I grow up, I’ll marry you,” he promised, and from that moment, I couldn’t leave him. Even when he went off to the army, I waited.

When he came back years later, I was eighteen, and we picked up right where we had left off. “Look, you haven’t forgotten me,” Michael said, taking my hand. “So, will you marry me?”

Of course, I said yes. Soon after, I found out I was pregnant, and we had a small wedding. I moved in with Michael’s parents while our house was being built, and they treated me kindly. But everything changed when I was heavily pregnant and Michael didn’t come home one night.

I was worried sick. I kept checking the construction site, but he wasn’t there. That’s when I went to my mother-in-law. “Michael’s not home. I’m worried,” I told her.

She patted my head affectionately. “Oh, honey, that’s how things are. Do you think my husband never cheated on me? But he came around eventually. Tough it up, dear,” she said in a way that made me feel small and powerless.

Soon, the town started talking. Michael was having an affair with Samantha. It was too much for me to handle, and when my daughter Helen was born, I decided to leave and move back with my parents.

Michael begged me to return, and twice I went back, only to find out he was seeing other women again—Samantha, Vicky, Melinda… and more. I couldn’t do it anymore. I divorced him and never looked back.

After that, I decided I’d get married for convenience, but I never expected to fall in love.

I contacted Aunt Catherine, who lived in the city, and she helped me land a job as a secretary at Tom’s firm. The timing was perfect since the former secretary was on maternity leave. The competition for the job, though, was fierce—Mary was the top contender, and she had made it clear she had feelings for Tom. Everyone knew it, but Tom didn’t seem to notice.

It wasn’t easy, but in the end, I got the job. And now here I was, married to Tom. But there was one thing I hadn’t told him yet—I hadn’t shared the truth about my past, my daughter, or my failed marriage. I thought I’d talk about it when we had children. But now, with Mary in the picture, I feared she might expose everything.

Mary had been digging into my past, gathering information about me. She knew about my history with Michael and how I had left him, but she never confronted me directly. Instead, she had found out through other people.

As she stood up to speak, my heart sank.

Mary took a deep breath and said into the microphone, “Good afternoon, everyone. My name is Mary. I’ve worked with Tom for a long time, and while nobody invited me here, I decided to come. I want to say a few words.”

I squeezed Tom’s hand, trying to stay calm.

He looked at me with a reassuring smile. “Don’t worry, Jess. I know everything. I know about your past,” he said softly.

I froze. “Wait, what? How do you know?”

“We’ll talk about it later,” Tom whispered. “And don’t worry. I’ve already forgiven you.”

I looked at Tom, a mix of shock and relief rushing through me. I squeezed his hand tightly—this time, it wasn’t out of fear, but because I loved him.

“Go ahead,” Tom nodded to Mary.

Mary continued, “I came here to say… congratulations to you both, Tom and Jessica. I hope you’ll be very happy together. And this is a gift from our team.” She handed over a large box to us.

As I opened the box, I leaned in and whispered to Mary, “Did you come here just to give us a gift?”

Mary smiled. “Yes,” she said. “I liked Tom, but I know he loves you. I truly hope you both stay happy forever.”

I was overwhelmed. I leaned forward and hugged her tightly. “You know, everyone says I married out of convenience. But I love him.”

“I know, Jessica,” Mary said with a warm smile.

And so, the day ended with a happy ending, a wedding filled with unexpected turns. Later, I learned that Tom had fallen in love with me at first sight. He had researched my past and even had a conversation with my ex-husband when he tried to ruin our relationship.

But Tom fought for me, and he never cared about the rumors. He didn’t care that I kept parts of my past a secret. He wanted to be a loving husband and the father of our children—and he did that better than I ever imagined.

A year after we married, we had twins—Sam and Aaron—and Tom loved all of the children, Helen, Sam, and Aaron, unconditionally.

What can we learn from this story?

Sometimes, love is unexpected. Tom and Jessica were meant to be together. True relationships are built on love and trust, not blood. Tom accepting Helen as his own is a shining example of this.
