Julia’s world came crashing down in an instant when her husband, Tom, was diagnosed with cancer. The doctors gave him a grim prognosis, and just two months later, he was gone. Schuyler had discovered the truth when she received a wedding invitation addressed to Julia. It was Rob’s wedding, and even though Mike had manipulated him into thinking that his mother had no place for him in her life, Rob still wanted her to be there.
Schuyler, determined to mend the broken bond, contacted Rob using the sender’s address from the invitation. That’s when she learned the full extent of Mike’s betrayal.
Mike had been feeding Rob lies for years, telling him things like, “Look how much your mom has to work to take care of you. Wouldn’t it be better if she didn’t have to worry about you? Don’t you think she’d be happier without the burden of having to raise you?”
Rob, vulnerable and desperate for a sense of peace, believed Mike. He left, thinking he was doing the right thing, thinking that he was making things better for his mom.
When Julia learned all of this, she immediately used the burner phone to contact Rob. She poured her heart out to him, explaining that she had never known what Mike had done. She told him that she had never stopped looking for him and that she loved him more than words could express.
The truth finally came to light. Julia couldn’t stay with Mike any longer. She divorced him, sold the property they had bought together, and bought a new house—one right next to Rob’s. She was determined to be a part of her son’s life again, no matter what it took.
Julia attended Rob’s wedding and saw him for the first time in years. It was a moment of healing, and she knew, deep down, that she would never let her son go again. Now, she’s a proud grandmother to a beautiful boy, and despite the pain of the past, she finally feels like she’s found peace.
