NFL reporter Doug Kyed recently shared some heartbreaking news—his two-year-old daughter, Hallie, passed away, nine months after being diagnosed with leukemia.
In April 2023, the Kyed family received devastating news—little Hallie had leukemia. Doug, who writes for the Boston Herald, took to Instagram to reveal that his beloved daughter lost her battle on January 21, 2024.
Things took a turn for the worse after Hallie relapsed following a bone marrow transplant.
“Hallie died peacefully in her sleep on Sunday morning, with Jen and I holding her hands in bed,” Doug wrote. “We’re completely lost and heartbroken without Hallie. Our lives will never be the same.”
After Hallie’s relapse, Doug and his family tried to stay hopeful, despite the tough road ahead.
“I’m choosing to stay positive,” Doug had shared at the time. “Hallie has beaten every single obstacle that AML has thrown at her so far. This will be her toughest test, but if anyone can conquer it, it’s our fierce little Hallie Bear.”
Even though they tried to stay strong, Doug admitted that they knew how serious the situation was when Hallie relapsed after the bone marrow transplant. With that in mind, the family made sure to spend every precious moment together at the hospital during Hallie’s final days.
“We knew the prognosis was poor, but we held out hope for remission because of how brave, strong, and resilient Hallie had been throughout her nine-month battle with acute myeloid leukemia and all of its complications,” Doug explained.
Acute myeloid leukemia (AML), according to the American Cancer Society, starts in the bone marrow but quickly spreads into the blood. It can then move to other parts of the body, like the lymph nodes, liver, spleen, and central nervous system.
Doug revealed to the Boston Herald that he had spent nearly half of his nights at Boston Children’s Hospital since Hallie’s diagnosis last year.
“My wife and I have been switching off between caring for Hallie and our 5-year-old, Olivia, at home,” Doug said.
Doug’s wife, Jen, described the unbearable pain of losing their daughter.
“There is a giant hole in my heart, and the pain is excruciating,” Jen shared. “I will never understand why or how something so horrible could happen.”
Rest in peace, Hallie.
