On the famous stages: Alongside George Clooney, several Hollywood stars are currently appearing in plays and musicals on Broadway.
For decades, major Hollywood stars have loved not only the silver screen but also the stage. Many well-known actors have graced the theater stages of Broadway in recent years, and right now, the cast lists are once again full of prominent names. These stars—famous from films, TV series, or other areas of the entertainment industry—are part of a Broadway ensemble in 2025.
George Clooney’s Broadway Debut in “Good Night, and Good Luck”
A Hollywood star with a more than successful Broadway debut: Oscar winner George Clooney, 63, is currently performing at the Winter Garden Theatre in the play Good Night, and Good Luck. Based on the 2005 film of the same name, Clooney plays CBS journalist Edward R. Murrow (1908–1965) in this historical drama.
While Clooney directed, co-wrote, and appeared in the film as a supporting actor, he now stars in the lead role for the play’s 99 performances on Broadway. He again co-wrote the script with Grant Heslov, 61. Tony Award winner David Cromer, 60, directed the production. Good Night, and Good Luck will run on Broadway through June 8, 2025.
According to Deadline, the play broke the record for the highest-grossing non-musical production in Broadway history in mid-April. In its first full week, the show earned $3.7 million—more than any previous play. The average ticket price is $303.
Denzel Washington and Jake Gyllenhaal Break Records with “Othello”
A powerful duo on Broadway: Denzel Washington, 70, and Jake Gyllenhaal, 44, headline the star-studded revival of Shakespeare’s Othello. Washington plays the title role at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre in New York, while Gyllenhaal takes on the role of his nemesis Iago. Even former President Joe Biden, 82, and First Lady Jill Biden, 73, attended a performance for a date night—despite generally keeping a low profile since leaving the White House.
The star-studded revival of Othello has already broken a record. The show’s previews earned $2.8 million in one week—unprecedented for a non-musical on Broadway. The production runs through June 8, 2025.
Standing Ovations for Nicole Scherzinger in “Sunset Boulevard”
Former Pussycat Dolls singer Nicole Scherzinger, 46, is currently being celebrated for her Broadway performance. She has starred in the musical Sunset Boulevard in New York since September 2024, and the show runs through July 2025. Composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber, 77, the musical features Scherzinger as Norma Desmond, a diva from the silent film era. Celebrities such as Heidi Klum, 51, Jane Fonda, 87, and Oprah Winfrey, 71, have already attended performances. Scherzinger regularly receives standing ovations for her role.
Kieran Culkin, Bob Odenkirk, and Bill Burr in “Glengarry Glen Ross”
From TV to Broadway: Kieran Culkin, 42, and Bob Odenkirk, 62, are familiar to fans from hit series like Succession and Better Call Saul. They are now starring alongside Emmy-nominated comedian Bill Burr, 56, in the Broadway revival of David Mamet’s real estate drama Glengarry Glen Ross. The production runs through the end of June 2025.
“Succession” Star Sarah Snook in “The Picture of Dorian Gray”
Culkin’s Succession co-star Sarah Snook, 37, is also currently appearing on Broadway. She made her Broadway debut in a modern adaptation of The Picture of Dorian Gray. Despite her experience, the production is a major challenge—Snook plays all 26 characters in this reinterpretation of Oscar Wilde’s novel The Picture of Dorian Gray.
Nick Jonas in “The Last Five Years”
In early April, Nick Jonas, 32, made his Broadway debut in The Last Five Years. He stars opposite Tony Award winner Adrienne Warren, 37, as Jamie, a young man navigating a turbulent relationship with Cathy, portrayed throughout the musical. The Jonas Brothers member will be on stage through June 22.
“Stranger Things” Star Sadie Sink in “John Proctor is the Villain”
For the past decade, Sadie Sink, 23, has been a staple of the Stranger Things cast, but now she’s reinventing herself on Broadway. The young actress stars in the sharp comedy John Proctor is the Villain. Set in a small-town Georgia high school, the play portrays a young generation in flux, driven by pop music, optimism, and rage. Directed by Tony Award winner Danya Taymor.
Coming in September: Keanu Reeves in “Waiting for Godot”
Keanu Reeves, 60, has played many roles in his long career, but he’s never appeared on the famed Broadway stage—until now. The star of the Matrix and John Wick franchises will make his Broadway debut at the Hudson Theatre later this year.
Reeves will star in the Broadway production of Samuel Beckett’s Waiting for Godot, officially opening on September 28, with previews starting September 13. The production will run until January 4, 2026.
Beckett’s play centers on two vagabonds, Estragon and Vladimir, who await the arrival of the mysterious Godot. Reeves will portray Estragon, while Vladimir will be played by Alex Winter, 59—a longtime friend of Reeves and a Broadway veteran from childhood. The two previously starred in the surreal Bill & Ted comedies.
