In 1965, radio pundit Paul Harvey broadcasted a chilling prophecy that reached millions of listeners. Over a span of forty years, starting in the 1950s, his broadcasts captivated nearly 24 million people each week.
Many were stunned by his words, but no one could have predicted that 53 years later, his ominous forecast would ring true. Listening to his announcement today still sends shivers down the spine.
Paul Harvey’s Prophecy from 1965: A Chilling Warning That Came True
Paul Harvey began his “prophecy” with the words, “If I were the Devil.” He then outlined a series of troubling scenarios. His insights were disturbingly accurate.
“If I Were Satan,” he began, “I would wish to cover the entire planet in darkness. Even though I would own a third of its land and four out of five of its people, I wouldn’t be content until I had taken the ripest apple from the tree. So, I would set my sights on taking control of the United States, by any means necessary.”
He continued, “I would start with a whisper campaign. I would speak to you as I whispered to Eve, ‘Do as you please,’ with the wisdom of a serpent. I would tell young people, ‘The Bible is a myth,’ and convince them that ‘man created God.’ I would promote the idea that ‘what is good is square and what is bad is good.'”
“I would softly suggest to young married people that employment debases them and that attending cocktail parties is beneficial. I would advise them against being ‘extreme’ in their morality, religion, or patriotism.”
“I would teach the elderly to pray by having them say, ‘Our father which art in Washington.’ Then, I would manipulate things further. I would teach writers how to make gory literature appealing, making everything else seem boring and uninteresting. I would introduce dirtier movies to TV, creating a cycle of escalating filth.”
“I would infiltrate unions and push for less work and more laziness, knowing idle hands are the Devil’s workshop. I would sell booze to distinguished ladies and gentlemen, smuggle drugs to whomever I could, and use pills to put the rest to sleep.”
“If I were the Devil, I would support educational institutions that develop students’ minds while neglecting to control their emotions. I would place an atheist in front of the highest courts and get pastors to agree with me.”
“I would persuade the courts to rule against God and in favor of pornography by using flattery and promises of power. I would kick God out of the courtroom, the schoolhouse, and finally Congress.”
“Then I would deify science and replace religion with psychology in his own churches. If I were Satan, I would create an egg for Easter and a bottle for Christmas.”
“If I were the Devil, I would take from the wealthy and give to the needy until I eliminated ambition. Then everyone would have to report back to work in my police state.”
“After that, I would split up families, place women in coal mines, children in uniforms, and objectors in slave labor camps.”
“The world will go to hell just as surely as the Devil if I were Satan, so I would just keep doing what I’m doing.”
Reflecting on Paul Harvey’s words from over five decades ago, it’s uncanny how many of his predictions seem to have come true. My mom and I used to listen to Paul Harvey records in the 1970s, and everything he said then still resonates today.
