Prince Louis’ funny faces have already become iconic: today, the youngest child of William and Kate celebrates his seventh birthday.
Prince Louis, 7, has held the title of the cheekiest royal ever since he began making public appearances. The youngest child of British heir Prince William, 42, and Princess Kate, 43, continues to delight royal fans with his playful expressions and gestures. The relaxed parenting style of William and Kate towards their lively son also fosters a sense of closeness with the public, showing that even royal children don’t always behave perfectly according to etiquette.
However, there are quite a few things that set young Prince Louis and his siblings, Prince George, 11, and Princess Charlotte, 9, apart from other children. Here’s what we know about the youngest of William and Kate’s children:
First Public Appearance Seven Hours After Birth
Prince Louis was born on April 23, 2018, at St. Mary’s Hospital in London’s Paddington district. William and Kate presented their newborn son to the public just seven hours after his birth, wrapping him in the same blanket that George and Charlotte had used for their own first public appearances.
Four days later, William and Kate announced the name they had chosen for their son: Louis Arthur Charles – in honor of his paternal grandfather, King Charles, 76, and his third great-uncle, Louis, Earl Mountbatten (1900–1979). Louis was christened on July 9, 2018, by the then Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, 69, at the Chapel Royal of St James’s Palace in London.
Louis also began his early education at age three in London at a preschool that charges at least 13,000 euros per year. After the family relocated from Kensington Palace in London to Windsor in 2022, he joined his siblings at Lambrook School, where tuition for the youngest students is around 15,000 euros per year.
Prince Louis’ Hobbies
In addition to school and occasional public appearances with his famous family, Prince Louis already seems to have a few hobbies. He appears to be enthusiastic about cricket and rugby and, like his mother, is said to be a tennis fan as well.
Louis also seems to have an interest in music. As The Telegraph reported at the end of 2024, Prince William revealed during the Tusk Awards ceremony in London to Rolling Stones bassist Ron Wood, 77, and former Dire Straits guitarist Mark Knopfler, 75, that his youngest son had recently taken an interest in a particular musical instrument. “My youngest is learning the drums. I live with my fingers in my ears,” William joked.
Shortly before that, William had already revealed that Louis and Charlotte share another hobby. During a visit to the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) in London, he reportedly told the media that his two younger children are big movie fans, while George has a stronger preference for video games.
Besides a love for tennis, Prince Louis seems to share another hobby with his mother: photography. Just recently, one of his works was published by the royals on Instagram: a photo of his mother Kate, shared by the palace on World Cancer Day. The picture shows the Princess, who had to undergo chemotherapy last year following a cancer diagnosis, sitting on a fallen tree trunk in a wintry Windsor forest. How William and Kate’s three children reacted to their mother’s serious illness is not publicly known. However, the 43-year-old is now gradually returning to public life, and on January 14 of this year, she announced she is in remission.
