Princess Alexia: Honest Words About Her Life in London: “Quite Exhausting”

Six months ago, Princess Alexia began her studies outside of the Netherlands. Now, the daughter of King Willem-Alexander reveals how much she truly enjoys her chosen home, London.

In September 2024, Princess Alexia, 19, started her civil engineering studies in London—an exciting step for the second youngest daughter of King Willem-Alexander, 57, and Queen Máxima, 53. On the occasion of King’s Day celebrations, she returned to the Netherlands together with her older sister, Princess Amalia, 21—and shared some surprisingly candid words about her new life in England.

Princess Alexia finds her studies challenging

While the youngest daughter, Princess Ariane, 18, is busy preparing for her final exams at the United World College Adriatic in Italy, Amalia and Alexia are enjoying their well-deserved freedom—and celebrated together with their parents on Saturday, April 26, 2025.

However, Alexia herself is currently in the middle of an exam period, as she revealed to the “Nederlandse Omroep Stichting” (NOS): “I’m right in the middle of my exams and trying to figure out what I’m learning.” The princess does not hide the fact that her course of study is demanding. “No, just kidding. It’s going well,” the 19-year-old emphasized, before admitting, “It’s quite an exhausting degree.”

All the more reason for her to be happy to be spending her student years in England’s capital. “Every now and then I get to explore the huge city of London a little. I’m having a great time,” the Dutch royal enthused during the interview. Alexia had already moved to the UK in autumn 2021 for her high school diploma, attending United World College Atlantic in Wales.

Sister Amalia Returns to Amsterdam

Her older sister Amalia, on the other hand, chose to study in Amsterdam. After receiving threats from the mafia, she relocated her studies to Madrid for a year. However, the 21-year-old has now returned to her original university, where she is continuing her Bachelor’s degree in Politics, Psychology, Law, and Economics (PPLE). During King’s Day celebrations, the princess appeared relaxed. In an interview with NOS, she shared: “I’m doing my best with my studies.”

This weekend, though, she can take a rare break from studying and fully enjoy celebrating her father. “I’m so happy to be here and to celebrate such an incredibly radiant day. That was always uncertain—April does what it wants—and I’m very happy that the sun is shining.”
If that’s not a promising sign for the future…
