In Barbara Schöneberger’s podcast, Rebecca Mir reveals how she first met Massimo Sinató on “Let’s Dance.”
Rebecca Mir, 33, and Massimo Sinató, 44, have been a couple for around 13 years. Now, the former GNTM contestant and TV presenter has shared how their relationship began during “Let’s Dance” on Barbara Schöneberger’s podcast.
The host of “Mit den Waffeln einer Frau” (With a Woman’s Waffles) first talks about her own brief dancing experience with the professional dancer and gushes: “You almost have to fight against supernatural forces when you’re dancing with someone and both are single—or whatever the situation may be… It’s crazy not to fall in love, I think.”
“It wasn’t speed dating, it was slow dating”
But things didn’t happen that fast with Mir and Sinató. “I think I’m a bit slow in that area,” Mir explains. “I need some time.” However, things clicked right away between the pair: “Massimo was of course very charming from the beginning and a great dancer, so it worked really well. I think it just developed over time because we were on the same wavelength from the start.”
Mir also recalls how the two spent an incredible amount of time together during the months the show was on: “‘Let’s Dance’ lasts four months, and we were together in the training room for ten hours a day. That wasn’t speed dating, that was slow dating.”
“RTL did a pretty good job casting us”
In 2012, Sinató and Mir finished in second place on the show. At the time they met, Mir had just gone through a breakup, and Sinató had married dancer Tatjana Kuschill the year before. Sinató and Mir only became a couple after the show: “It all comes with a certain kind of pressure. You always have to reach a goal, and then after the show, you have to see how it works in real life. Because those four months on ‘Let’s Dance’—that’s not real life, it’s a state of exception.”
Apparently, their relationship passed the reality test: a few months after the show, they made their relationship public. They got married in Sicily in 2015. In 2021, Mir gave birth to their son. “I’d say RTL did a pretty good job casting us,” Mir concludes.
