Sam’s Club is making shopping faster with new AI technology that checks receipts as customers leave the store. This high-tech upgrade is now in 120 locations and will expand to all nearly 600 stores by the end of 2024.
The new system uses AI to speed up the exit process by up to 23%. Before, customers had to wait for an employee to check their receipt against what’s in their cart. This wait often frustrated shoppers.
With the AI-powered setup, shoppers pay at the register or with the Sam’s Club Scan & Go app. Cameras and scanners at the exit then confirm all items were paid for.
Todd Garner, chief product officer at Sam’s Club, highlighted the benefits: “When we combine this technology with our Scan & Go shopping experience, it provides a near friction-free shopping experience.”
The goal is to make shopping easier and faster for members. What do you think about AI at Sam’s Club exits? Will it improve your shopping trip?

Needs work! It has scanned my purse the last two times I’ve been there, and said I didn’t pay for it. I just wonder what else it scanned in my purse.
