On Wednesday evening, US rapper Nicki Minaj performed at the Lanxess Arena in Cologne, making headlines in the days leading up to the event.
Fans came dressed in pink, a color their idol frequently sports, for Nicki Minaj’s (41) concert on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at the Lanxess Arena.
Originally, the controversial musician was supposed to give the first of two concerts in Cologne on Tuesday evening (June 4), but it was canceled a few days prior due to “scheduling conflicts.” Thousands of fans were bitterly disappointed by the 41-year-old.
Those who managed to get tickets for Wednesday were luckier. The second concert was not canceled. However, instead of starting around 8 p.m. as scheduled, the “Queen of Rap,” as she is often called, didn’t take the stage until 9:50 p.m.
She kept the fans, many of whom had been waiting all day outside the venue to get as close to the musician as possible, waiting for almost two hours.
Diva behavior à la Madonna seems to be the current trend for the 41-year-old, who was detained by police at Amsterdam Airport just a few days ago for apparently carrying too much cannabis in her luggage.
She missed her show in Manchester, and canceled her second concert in Amsterdam after the incident. She will reschedule Manchester.
Nicki Minaj Performed Around 30 Songs
Minaj visited only two German cities, Cologne and Berlin, as part of her “Pink Friday 2 World Tour.” Some fans traveled from far and wide to attend one of the few concerts in Germany.
The delay didn’t seem to bother the fans at all. Even though no opening act was announced, DJ Boof took the stage around 8:30 p.m. and got the sold-out arena excited. The crowd danced, causing the stands to shake.
Once on stage, the rapper didn’t disappoint. She performed around 30 songs that evening in Cologne, including some of her mega-hits like “Barbie World,” “Anaconda,” “Super Bass,” and “Starships.” She also performed songs from her latest album “Pink Friday 2,” such as “FTCU,” “Beep Beep,” “Pink Birthday,” “Cowgirl,” and “Red Ruby Da Sleeze.” Some songs, however, were significantly shortened.
Nicki Minaj Showcases Multiple Outfits
You have to give it to the 41-year-old: Nicki Minaj knows how to put on a spectacular show. And everything she does, she does to the extreme. The tour stage is gigantic, with multiple levels, a long catwalk, and many screens displaying animations. There were also elaborate light, smoke, and fire effects.
There was an abundance of glitter, extreme hairstyles – some wigs reached down to her knees, while others were bright red and pink – and numerous outfit changes (including a glitter bodysuit, a bodysuit with golden nipple pasties, and a coat reminiscent of a boxer’s robe).
Her dances were robotic, her facial expressions exaggerated. Everything, down to the smallest change in expression, seemed meticulously planned – well thought out. Nicki Minaj is truly a work of art.

Nicki’s brief speech on love also seemed well thought out: “You must be so careful when you are loved. Just because someone loves you now doesn’t mean they always will. So be careful with those who love you. Cherish them always, be mindful of how you treat them. Treat them well and the universe will bring more good to you.”
Then, the 41-year-old even signed an autograph for a lucky fan in the crowd. Nicki showed her appreciation for her fans, saying: “I thank you from the bottom of my heart for being here today. I appreciate you. I appreciate your love,” said the “Queen of Rap.”
She wanted to leave her fans with a final message at the end of her nearly two-hour concert: “You are much more powerful than you think. Often, we are sad about the past, about something we can’t change. Or we look to the future as if that will help. Live in the moment. In a world with social media and smartphones, it’s so hard to just live in the moment and not care about what others say about you. That’s tough. What I want to share with you: If you always try to live in the moment, appreciate the moment, and never forget that there are people who are worse off than you, you generate positive energy and the universe will give that back to you.”
A message to the fans that – even if certainly rehearsed – is thought-provoking and holds a very true, deep core. The fans thanked the 41-year-old with loud cheers and applause.
