The Shocking Story of Jackson the Dog
There are some people in the world who really shouldn’t be allowed to own pets, and this story shows just how terrible it can get. A few years ago, Hayden Howard noticed something strange about her dog, Jackson.
Jackson, her big and lovable English Mastiff, had been playing in the backyard while Hayden was inside. When she called him in, she thought he looked like he had a lot of insect bites all over his body. But as she got closer, her heart dropped. What she saw was far worse than she ever imagined.
Jackson was covered in bullet holes.
“I was completely shocked. I didn’t know what to think,” Hayden told WXIN, her voice shaking with disbelief and sorrow. She couldn’t believe her eyes. How could this have happened to her sweet dog?
Without wasting a moment, Hayden rushed Jackson to the veterinarian. When the vet examined him, he discovered something horrifying: tiny bullets lodged in Jackson’s body, all fired from a BB gun. “There was one stuck under his eyelid, one in his ear, one in his knee. They were everywhere,” Hayden explained, still trying to process the cruelty her dog had endured.
The vet had to shave almost all of Jackson’s fur to remove the bullets. It was a heartbreaking sight. In total, the vet extracted 27 bullets but had to leave 20 more embedded in Jackson’s small body. That’s right—he had been shot over 70 times!
“I have never seen an animal shot that many times. It’s a very bad case, and it’s sad to see,” said Craig Hayes, the Assistant Chief of the Seymour Police Department. His words echoed the disbelief and anger that many felt.
“How could someone do something so evil to a dog that has never harmed anyone?” Hayden thought to herself. Jackson was just a playful dog who loved to be outside.
The police quickly suspected that the shots came from a nearby yard, and they began their investigation, eager to catch the person responsible. It didn’t take long for them to find evidence. They discovered bullets and a BB gun hidden in a neighbor’s home.
But that wasn’t all. In addition to the BB gun and pellets, the police also found methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia in that same home. It was clear that this was someone who posed a serious danger, not just to animals but to the community as well.
“I really hope the person responsible gets a long prison sentence,” Hayden said firmly. “They should pay the price for their crime and never be allowed to be near animals again.”
Even with all the trauma Jackson faced, there was some good news: he was recovering well, thanks to the love and care from Hayden. “He’s strong, and I believe he’ll bounce back,” she said, feeling hopeful about her dog’s future.
While some news outlets might call BB and pellet guns “toys” or “fake,” it’s important to remember that they are real guns that can cause real harm. When someone commits a crime using a BB or pellet gun, it should be treated seriously. “It’s a real gun, and criminals who use it against the innocent should be charged as such,” Hayden insisted.
As we think about Jackson’s journey to recovery, we all wish him the best. “I hope that Jackson springs back to full health soon,” Hayden expressed. “I can’t wait for him to run around and play happily in our backyard again!”
