Need to clean your windows but out of glass cleaner? No problem: we’ll show you how to clean your windows with shampoo.
Kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, windows: twice a year, most households do a thorough cleaning of all rooms and corners. Window cleaning is particularly tedious for many because the wrong cleaning agents often leave unsightly streaks and spots.
Instead of using conventional glass cleaner, you can opt for a cheaper alternative and simply use your shower shampoo.
Shampoo makes your windows just as clean as the specialized cleaner and can save you a few euros over time that you would otherwise spend on glass cleaner.
Without Glass Cleaner: Shampoo as a Cheap Cleaning Substitute
Shampoo actually contains some ingredients that are also found in glass cleaners. For example, shampoo contains surfactants, alcohol, and glycerin, which dissolve dirt and grease, prevent streaks, and temporarily stop new dirt from settling.
Ordinary shampoo, which you use for showering, is therefore a cheap alternative to glass cleaner. Due to its ingredients, you can also use shampoo in other situations as an alternative cleaning agent.
How to Clean Your Windows with Shampoo
All you need for window cleaning is water, a bottle of shampoo you might already have in the bathroom, and a microfiber cloth. First, put the shampoo and water in a 1:3 ratio into an old spray bottle and mix the ingredients.
Now spray the cleaner generously on the windows and let it sit for a short while. Then wipe the shampoo off the windows with the microfiber cloth.
