A six-year-old boy’s drawing and his teacher’s reaction to it have caused quite a stir online, dividing opinions.
The parents shared that the teacher called them one day, insisting they come to the school for a serious talk. Concerned, they asked their son if he had done anything wrong, but he simply said, “My teacher didn’t like my drawing.”
The next day, they went to the school, where the teacher pulled out the drawing and asked, “I asked him to draw his family, and he drew this. Would you mind explaining?” the father shared on social media.
The drawing showed what appeared to be four people with cords around their necks, which looked alarming at first glance.
The mom and dad explained that the picture actually depicted the family snorkeling in the Bahamas.
The dad’s post sparked an online debate about whether the teacher’s concern was justified.
Some argued that she should have asked the child about the drawing first, while others felt a six-year-old might not tell the truth.
“This is bloody hysteria,” one person wrote. “Seriously, who needs that drama?”
“Emergency meeting over this? I know it’s not the best drawing, but I think it’s pretty clear…” another user commented.
“What kind of teacher was this?” another wondered. “Children are innocent… they take pleasure from innocent drawings.”
Those supporting the teacher said things like, “I would want to know, even if it’s a false alarm… better safe than sorry,” and “The teacher did the right thing.
These interventions have saved lives. Seriously.”
