Tipping has always sparked a lot of conversation, especially in the US. With social media, the debate has only grown more intense. Recently, a TikTok incident has stirred up even more controversy.
Let’s dive into the story and see where you stand on this issue.
Lillie’s Viral Video
In a video that has since been deleted, server Lillie shared her perspective on tipping. She explained that her hourly wage is very low, so she relies heavily on tips for her income.
Lillie pointed out that restaurant menu prices are kept lower with the expectation that tips will make up the difference. She boldly stated, “You don’t deserve to eat out if you can’t afford to tip.”
Lillie even compared tipping to paying a nanny. She suggested that if you can’t afford to tip well, you should reconsider eating out, just as you wouldn’t hire a nanny if you couldn’t pay them properly. This statement ignited a heated debate among viewers.
Mixed Reactions
People had strong reactions to Lillie’s video. Some criticized her, saying her comments were entitled and that if her job didn’t pay enough, she should find another one.
Others supported Lillie, sharing their own stories of low wages and emphasizing that tipping improves the dining experience. One commenter shared, “I know what it’s like to struggle with tips. They make a big difference.”

Depending the service, that’s the tip amount. According to her attitude I would give her a 10% if that. She sounds like it’s time for her to find another job.
When my Husband and I go out the places we go have what is expected for a tip printed on the receipt. We tip if the waitress is decent to us and friendly we leave her more than what the receipt wants . Some Restaurants in our town we have quit going to because of sh**y service.
