Miranda Lambert is stirring up controversy once again with her latest onstage behavior at the Montana Festival on July 14. The country superstar, known for her bold personality, found herself at the center of attention for all the wrong reasons after calling out audience members during her set. The incident left many fans disappointed, with some even walking out of the show.
A fan captured the moment in a video that quickly went viral, showing Lambert, dressed in her signature cowboy hat and a fringed denim dress, clearly annoyed as she addressed the crowd. With her southern drawl thick and her frustration evident, she pointed to a section of the audience.
“I can see your head is not turned the right way, which is this way,” she said, gesturing toward herself. The sternness in her voice sent a clear message—Miranda was not here for distractions.
While some in the audience cheered, others seemed uncomfortable with Lambert’s tone. But she didn’t stop there. “So, if you came to visit, you can do it somewhere else,” she continued, leaving no room for misunderstanding. The message was simple: if you’re not here for the music, you can leave.
But for the die-hard fans, she reassured them, “If you came to sing and hear some country music and drink some beer […] then we’re doing that tonight.”
Things escalated further when Lambert addressed people in the crowd causing a ruckus. “Are we clear?” she asked, raising her hands as if commanding a group of school kids. Then, with a laugh, she tried to lighten the mood by joking, “Fighting is not ok… And it’s always the girls. We get crazy!” Her laughter echoed through the venue as she lifted her cup in a toast to the crowd.
But just as she was about to take a sip, Lambert noticed her cup was empty. With a playful shake of her cup toward the stage crew, she asked for a refill. “Mine’s empty,” she said, and in no time, a team member rushed to bring her a fresh drink. “This looks like a good time for a drink, y’all!” Lambert exclaimed, arms wide open as she tried to move on from the tension.
The video of the incident was shared on TikTok, sparking a heated discussion online. “Thoughts? 🤷🏻♀️ #mirandalambert #underthebigsky #whitefishmontana #countrymusic,” the caption read. In the comments section, many fans expressed their frustration.
“We left. As did LOTS of the crowd,” one user wrote. Another called the event “terrible,” while someone else shared, “I stopped liking Miranda for this exact reason.”
Some longtime fans were quick to point out that this wasn’t new behavior for Lambert. “This has always been her. I remember it from her county fair days. [Never] paid to see her again,” one comment read. Another user added, “Miranda, [you’re] okay at best. Not amazing. Please respect your fans more.
They made you what you are. Without them you’d be some nobody working at Dairy Queen. Respectfully, just shut up and sing.”
However, not everyone was critical. One fan who had been close to the stage praised Lambert’s performance, saying, “Honestly she was amazing. We were right up front and loved every second of it.” Another echoed similar sentiments: “🔥🔥🔥🔥 I LOVE her. Always have. She’s brutally honest. Something so many of us lack. Honesty!”
This isn’t the first time Lambert has had a tense moment with her audience. At a previous concert in Las Vegas, she interrupted her emotional performance of “Tin Man” to call out a group of women who were taking selfies instead of listening to the music. Frustrated, she stopped the song and addressed them directly.
“These girls are worried about their selfie and not listening to the song, and it’s pissed me off a little bit,” she said. Despite the crowd’s cheers, Lambert didn’t back down. She made the women put their phones away before restarting the song, asking, “Shall we start again?”
Social media users have had a field day with Lambert’s latest outburst. “Yikes, this was completely out of line and awkward. She’s not a teacher here 😅,” one person commented. Another felt sympathy for the fans who were called out, saying, “Omg… and then imagine how they felt after this???”
Some users found humor in the situation, with one saying, “The people leaving right after she did it lmaoooo that was great!” A Taylor Swift fan even jumped in, writing, “Taylor [Swift] would never 😏.”
Lambert’s blunt approach continues to divide her fanbase. While some love her for her honesty, others find her behavior too confrontational. Whether or not she’s winning over new fans, one thing is for sure—Miranda Lambert will always say what’s on her mind, no matter the consequences.
