Molly’s life had been a series of tough breaks, and her biggest worry was her son, Tommy. Constantly moving to new towns and schools was taking a toll on him. He started acting out—picking fights and bothering other kids. Molly never expected that a call from the school principal would bring back a part of her past she thought was long gone.
At home, things were getting worse with her husband, Nigel. He never treated Tommy as his own and often referred to him as “your son.” One night, Nigel snapped, “Why can’t you get your son to behave?” Molly was crushed by Nigel’s harsh words, even though they had been together for years.
The next day, Molly went to the school to talk about Tommy’s behavior. To her shock, her ex-boyfriend Christian was standing next to the principal. Christian, who had been out of Tommy’s life for a long time, said, “I see myself in him. I want to make things right because I made a mistake.”
Molly was stunned and didn’t know how to respond to his sudden appearance. But she knew something had to change. That evening, after another fight with Nigel, Molly came home to find him passed out and holding a bottle of alcohol.
Molly finally decided to take charge. “We’re going somewhere better, Tommy,” she said as she packed their bags and woke Nigel up. “Somewhere our love will be felt.”
As they left their old apartment, Molly felt a glimmer of hope for the first time in years.
